AutoCAD is mostly used for 2D drafting and there is plenty of demand for that. There is several decades of history wrapped up in AutoCAD, its not going anywhere. Revit is for modelling buildings in great detail and with lots of process and data attached. It dominates the construction CAD market and rightly so.But mainly Autocad, its tried and true, and we already have a massive database of details and typical standards. If A client requests Revit they will get it in reddit, with all the details imported from autocad, and they will pay more in the long run for it as well. We work with facades and we use both Revit and AutoCAD. Our shop drawings contain a large amount of detail that would be difficult to draw in a Revit and populate out through an entire building. We find it easier to do our shop drawing details in AutoCAD and all of our elevations, plans, and coordination models in Revit.
