Review. Van Der Hagen is a reputable brand out of Holland that has been around since the early 1900s. After trying out so many safety razors I figured I had to give this one a go. I grabbed myself a long-handle version off Amazon. The razor was well on the cheaper side. Overall, I think that the Van Der Hagen is a great inexpensive safety razor ...17 May 2012 ... It's a high-quality piece of equipment designed to be both precise and fast. It also doesn't have any competition in regards to form factor. If the Wicked Edge is too much, the Edge Pro Apex is plenty fine for what it is. A completed comparison between two blades is a Fight. The Rockwell 2c costs $30. The Rockwell razor design is fantastic. I use the 6s myself, and it's the best safety razor I've used. Alternatively, you might want to try the twig. It's a bit over your budget at $60, but it would be easy to use, and since it uses double edge blades, it would be economical.

(Before you read this, know that I am fully aware that every man's face is different. Add YMMV to every statement below.) Hi - I'm an old dude (50) who's been shaving with disposable cartridges for 35 years, and who is new to wet shaving. I'm three weeks in, and getting great, nick-free, non-irritated shaves. MdC has long been considered a top-tier vegan soap. It has a high initial price, but I get enough lather for 3+ passes using between 0.35 - 0.4 grams (measured), giving each 200-gram jar a life expectancy of about 500 three-pass shaves, spreading the expense over an extended period with even daily use. Most, if not all, of the difference between those razors is handle style (and thus weight and weight distribution). If you've been trying to make sense of them using Amazon product pages you might prefer to have a look at Merkur's catalog (warning: PDF), which at least shows them at a relatively consistent size and angle so they're easier to compare.Try washing your beard at the sink following your shower, using a high-glycerin soap, and rinsing partially with a splash. The immediately apply lather to your (washed, wet) beard. Do that a week, skip it a week, do it another week to see whether it helps. If you do not live in the US, that razor might not be available.

I use a straight since it gives me the best shave possible. I've tried all options available. A straight razor leaves my skin the smoothest, and shaves the closest. Being fun to use, possibly economical, and a connection to the past is a nice bonus, but would mean little if the performance wasn't superior. 2. I have both the mild and medium. Quit cartridge razor's as I was getting bad razor burn on my neck to the point people were asking if I have been choked. I prefer the medium for my neck, but I started learning with the mild. Both will do you well and I think either should work. There isn't much difference in aggressiveness between the two.If you are in Europe, Taylor of old Bond street is really awesome and not that expensive when you consider how long it lasts. No, you can't lather with your fingers. At least not very well. A good lather is a mixture of soap, water, and air. Your fingers just aren't as good at stirring up that mixture as a brush is. That said, you don't need a lather. There are some decent of non-lathering creams out there.

Instead of spending 30$ for the aftershave alone, and 60$ for a fragrance, look out for bundles that may be of your liking. There have been cases where the gift set was less expensive than the fragrance alone. Same as last year and next year - Pinaud Clubman. Pinaud clubman comes first on my list amazing after shave.

I was hesitant to try it after its price increase -- I do still believe that $70 for an aluminum razor is excessive -- but am glad I picked one up in a BST forum. One of the most enjoyable razors I've tried. The Progress is a great shaving razor, and the low-profile head makes it easier for shaving under the nose area.
