My favorite way to play Battania is a 50/50 Fian/Falx army with 3/4 of Falxmen left at tier 4. The regular Falxman performs better in melee than the tier 5 Veteran version, but the Veterans perform better against cav. Sharpshooters also have a shield, which is extremely helpful in sieges. In the open field, however, fians will win if they can stay at range. If for whatever reason you need to melee with a ranged unit, sharpshooter will also do better thanks to their shield. Tl;dr - open field combat - bow archers. Sieges - Crossbowman.

Legionaries have very high defence and Menavalions are one-hit wonders. But they are not op like some other troops and can be challenged by most other factions infantries. In my experience; Sturgian infantry soak up arrows best with their shield-wall, but that’s pretty much the only one-up they have.
