If you wanted, the closest you could come is buying a server, putting a password lock and then you could be good. However that route gets the server taken out of the hive so your character wouldn't transfer. Marcuskac.

Steep learning curve but worth it. Hope you stick with the game and I hope your friends decide to give it a second chance! I like playing solo, and it definitely can keep you busy as surviving takes more effort. When I get bored of being alone though I'll go out of my way to try and team up with randoms a bit.

Arma3 also had a number of paid DLC that certainly drove revenue as well. DayZ was supposed to be the showcase for the new enfusion engine but it was never completed for DayZ.
