The biggest differences between the early 5.7's and 6.1's is the exhaust manifolds and cat. back (larger on the 6.1), and there is no EGR or MDS on the 6.1. Other than that, it's pretty much a plug and play. You'd also have a problem if your 5.7 is an 05, as the 6.1's started in 06 and had different coils and coil plugs.

Even if you could do the complete engine swap from the v6 for 10k that is 1/4 the price of a marked down SRT8. 12k sound right for a factory new 5.7 with mds and computer. You swap everything under the car, (k member, Trans crossmember with the engine and transmission still bolted on from the top of the struts down rear axle, suspension, exhaust, the wiring is almost completely plug and play but will be the hardest part as routing harnesses sucks.
