Moonveil is really fast to use and does great damage. The nerf hasn’t changed that in the slightest. I think most weapons are better than the DMGS. Dark moon is pure unusable vs a lot of bosses and it's not just because of the cast time for the special.

Right now 52 and I'm in all Godrick's Knight Armor, dual wielding Grafted Greatsword +5 and Greatsword +9, able to have 3 talisman slot open without having to use the equipment load talisman, and no fatroll.Play whatever you enjoy, and if you like the look of the Darkmoon Greatsword, go for it.
