I assume Ring, like Google, does not expose any local streams from their cameras, which would make an all-local approach impossible (or at least aside from a severe security flaw / poorly implemented certificate validation). If I were starting from scratch I would avoid Ring or Google altogether and their blades-and-handles scheme.
