I recently renovated by bathroom and I had to replace the Moen shower cartridge that was there previously. After some fighting, I was able to get the old one out with a cartridge puller tool. The model of the old one is 109272. I called Moen and confirmed that the current replacement model is the 1222, which is what I have installed.Put some grease on the replacement cartridge and carefully work it back into the valve. Put the small clip back in to hold the new cartridge in place. Add a bead of silicone and a foam bead around the back of the escutcheon plate to make a watertight seal. Screw the cover plate and the shower handle back into place. Turn the water back on.2) Remove the Handle. Pry off the decorative cap on the faucet handle using a small, flat-head screwdriver.
