It's worth using in any place where you'd use msb (i), but also want to conserve prayer points. Jad, shamans, DKs, gorillas, in all of these places I prefer crystal bow over msb (i). And if you got some crystal armour, crystal bow gets an even bigger edge. Gotta get one for Western province diary.

Masterclass. It seems more consistent in getting kill credit in a mass, but overall seems like it does less overall damage than a crossbow with rubies. If you're just shooting for a few mass KC to get your feet wet, bowfa is a nice way to do it. Helm is worth like 12% zuk dps compared to justi or veracs. That's a huge difference. You can also lazy flick with quick prayers as fbow.

I'm a bit burnt out on money slug right now but I have 100m earned in runelite tracker. Mole with bowfa+cannon is chill and pretty decent money. Zulrah is probably your best bet in all honesty for a quick rebuild. Basically a zero risk boss. So basically I'm gonna try and liquidate 70%ish of my bank to get the BOFA and crystal set.Crystal bow is also good in fight caves. The armor set is what makes it out DPS your rune cbow, should also be more accurate. Bowfa is of course the long term goal there though.
