Looking at the Tobira’s sample pages, I think I would prefer Tobira over Genki if I were to begin my Japanese learning journey today because I like the layout, explanations and content.

It doesn't just teach you grammar, it also teaches you spoken language. Good thing to at least read through once. However, Tobira's workbooks both suck.
