The other thing that works for me are derelict freighter missions. I look for a run that is fairly straight forward, no parasites. It seems like once I find a derelict freighter that gives a salvage module, it will continue to do so on most runs. The nice thing about this method is you get the bulkhead expansions.
They aren't for making money although sometimes you'll get a good hall. Well, finding the right Derelict freighter can have great rewards for technology upgrades. Pair an S-Class upgrade with an S-Class freighter, you get some good stats. You get tainted metal too, about 1000-1400 every run. Unfortunately there is a difference between a Derelict Freighter as a random space encounter and a Derelict Freighter you find with a Emergency Broadcast Receiver. The random encounter version doesn't have any interior, so you can't land on it, but there are often 1-2 cargo pods you can destroy for some resources. Derelict freighters used to be the only way to get freighter upgrades, but now the last update added a new way; destroying pirate freighters and saving the civilian fleet will give you an S class freighter upgrade every time. At a much lower "level" in the game, yes, scarier and a bit challenging.

Lots of dioxite ( use about 50-300 per trip, depending on the derelict). The blaze javelin can one-shot the sentinels if it's upgraded (and if there are any). If you want to reuse the locator, put it into storage on your freighter or into your personal refiner before you interact with the derelict.
