He only appears in firelink after you finish the Tomb. Also the answers don't really matter as long as you deny being a cleric. Otherwise he will be hostile to you. As long as you can still talk with him after being thrown in the pit he will appear in firelink after you got Nito.But the game still loads those assets into memory in the background after you hit Firelink. And From does what From always does: fully unload the game from memory and loads it back in when you die, explaining why, if you were already at Firelink, it still puts the fog walls up. My workaround suggestion: rest at the tutorial boss bonfire instead.

Just a thought, but the only way to access Firelink in ds3 is through a bonfire. Bonfires are pretty uncanny with the way they let you warp through them. and I'm thinking now, what if they let you warp through time aswell?
