Well if you want some numbers, the last time I checked, the "Simple Tweaks" plugin (one of the most popular plugins in Dalamud's repos) has been downloaded almost 1.4 million times. Mind you, it's individual downloads and not active users or anything, but still, that's somewhat indicative of the popularity of plugins, especially QoL ones.
I noticed that many people haven't seen the official FFXIV channel's April Fools videos/manga, especially for new players! Eventually I found a fix that involved moving my install folder to another drive. So I bought a brand new SSD to do just that and moved my steam folders to it. Figured why not, I could use more SSD space. This fixed the crashing. About 2 weeks later MORE ISSUES. No more crashing, but the game would freeze and take a while to load resources like ...
